Dubai Flood: We Shall Overcome

The Dessert City faced a massive flood during the past week. Heavy rain, which started late on April 15th Monday night and continued on Tuesday, has transformed this vibrant city into a 'submerged desert’. Just a rain of few hours recorded as a ‘historic weather event’ that had not been seen by Dubai in the past 75 years, and it is considered that Dubai received more rain than it had in the previous year and a half. This extreme rainfall has harshly affected this beautiful land by creating a flood like atmosphere. Over 142 millimeters (5.59 inches) of rain fell on Dubai in a single day at Tuesday's conclusion. At Dubai International Airport, 94.7 millimeters (3.73 inches) of rainfall occurs there annually on average. There was even greater precipitation in other parts of the nation. Abu Dhabi and the Al Ain region alone received 254.8 mm of rain in a single day. It is estimated that there has been damage of crores due to heavy rain and wind.

The heavy rainfall wreaked havoc on the daily routines of people in Dubai. Roads became impassable due to flooding. Even Dubai Airport, one of the busiest in the world, experienced flight cancellations due to the inclement weather. As authorities scrambled to ease the crisis, tanker trucks were dispatched to pump water from streets and highways. However, the relentless downpour also caused water to enter homes, forcing residents to bail out their houses. Tragically, the calamity claimed the lives of 18 individuals, underscoring the severity of the situation and the challenges faced by the people of Dubai during this unprecedented rainfall event.

As the Dubai flood haunts people’s lives, many people have to face losses of crores, including their vehicles, furniture, electronic devices, etc. The current Dubai flood was a threat to electronic devices, especially in shops and offices working on the ground floor of buildings. Security systems like CCTV cameras and other indoor devices like ID card printers, card printing accessories, and anti-theft gates, as well as security equipment like biometric access control devices, are all susceptible to water damage, leading to malfunctions and potential data loss. The significant damage to these electronic devices in the Dubai flood is a major headache for businesses, and they have to spend a huge amount on repairing them or buying new devices.
